Do you recall my early attempt at pulling my father's car in and out of the garage? You should! Backing up I failed to cut the wheel to avoid the fence gate post pushing the whole gate up in the air! Who should witness this feat of driving talent? You just happened to look out the window at that very moment.

Talk about high school memories. Here's one I'll never forget. I had Mrs. Heines for 12th grade English. We were given an assignment to write in satire. Struggling for days to come up with a piece of original thought, I reached for Bill Cosby's record album and chose, "The Playground." Wrote it out verbatim no less. A stroke of genius! Turned it in at class early Friday morning. That afternoon I was attending a pep rally for an upcoming basketball game. As I sat in the bleachers I became aware of a conversation where Mrs. Heines read the paper aloud to a later class. Brilliant student not identified. It was then revealed by someone that the piece was a routine from Bill Cosby! I was mortified! A cloud of doom and dread swept over me for the entire weekend hoping Monday would never arrive! In class, Mrs. Heines returned everyone's paper except mine. As we got up to leave Mrs. Heines asked me to stay behind. Though I can't recall whether she gave me a D or an E, I was introduced to a term I would never forget - plagiarism! Later in life I imparted this gem to our youngest daughter who teaches high school English. She was appalled! Yes, father's are not infallible. Bless Mrs. Heines.
